SUMMER SCHOOLS WILL OPEN THEIR DOORS TO APPROXIMATELY 900 THOUSAND STUDENTS

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer answered questions concerning mathematics and English summer schools which will be opened as a part of Ministry's "Mathematics" and "English" campaigns, summer term support and training courses (DYK) and science and arts summer schools which will be opened in the Arts and Science Centers (BİLSEMs).
 
Özer noted that students from 4th grade primary school and all grades of secondary schools and high schools can apply to mathematics and English summer schools while students from 2nd grade to all levels of secondary and high schools can enroll in science and arts summer schools in BİLSEMs which will begin on July 4.
 
Registration for mathematics and English summer schools and DYK are completed while registration process of BİLSEM summer schools still continues.
 
Özer stressed that mathematics summer schools aim at encouraging students to like mathematics lessons, to analytical thinking, reading data and allow them to use their knowledge in their daily lives and make this knowledge an important instrument.
 
Noting that the Ministry has been carrying out different activities such as mathematics workshops, material development and teacher training programs, Özer said that they expect to see the outcome of these efforts in the mathematics summer schools.
 
"In entire Türkiye, we will open 16,294 mathematics summer courses for 414,731 students. Students will receive 12 hours of mathematics courses per week for 4 weeks. We planned fun activities and a learning process based on daily life activities for students in order to establish a positive attitude towards mathematics. We also plan research and observation visits and presentation sessions," stated Özer.
  
Cooperation with the TRT for English summer schools
Minister Özer reminded that his Ministry has signed a protocol concerning English education and English summer with the Turkish Radio and Television Institute (TRT) with the purpose of using TRT education contents at English lessons and summer courses and developing printed and digital education material,
 
Noting that students will enter 12 hours of English courses in every week in the English summer school, Özer went on to say that:
 
"We have prepared a program that will attract the attention of students, allow them to actively participate in the learning process and fun themes. These themes were prepared by considering the knowledge level of students. There are activities based on communication and speaking skills, games, songs and plays in the English summer school program."
 
327,104 students enrolled in 11,566 courses in the English Summer School opened on July 4. Summer schools were opened for the first time in its history by the Ministry and a total of 741,835 students will study in a total of 27,860 courses in the entire country this summer.
 
Approximately 140,000 students applied for DYK
Minister Özer noted that approximately 140,000 students applied for DYK designed for 8th and 12th grades students adding that, "Summer school courses will begin with the participation of 881,000 students. BİLSEM summer school registrations will end on July 2 and courses will begin on July 18. We organized summer school activities in 55 different workshops in BİLSEMs in different parts of the country such as creative writing, mind games, music, virtue workshop, visual arts, aviation, space and modern robotics."
