Meeting with Üstel at the Prime Ministry of TRNC, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated that they did not see themselves as guests in Nicosia. Tekin recalled that he made his initial foreign visit to TRNC as Minister.
Expressing that they hope to support TRNC in the field of education and training, Tekin stressed that they would like to offer all the opportunities in terms of education and training as they offer for children in Türkiye, to the brothers and children in TRNC. Reminding that the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan instructed the Ministry to meet requests of TRNC, Tekin said that they hope the work to be done for TRNC will give positive results. Minister Tekin wished to be able to better serve children both in Türkiye and in TRNC during the new period.
"Thanks to the good relations built with Türkiye, we are overcoming the problems we faced in education."
Expressing his satisfaction with Minister Tekin's visit, The Prime Minister of TRNC Ünal Üstel said that as the government, they are working to ensure that children can receive a good education in a safer environment. Pointing out the historical bond of good relations between TRNC and Türkiye Üstel underlined that they overcome the problems they experience thanks to the good relations built with Türkiye.
Stating that they increased the education in schools to two full days a week this year, Üstel noted that they aim to increase full-time education to five days in all schools in 2025 and gradually move the education system to a more modern point.
Üstel and Tekin exchanged gifts after their speeches.
Minister Tekin then visited Atatürk Vocational High School, Atatürk Vocational High School Child Development and Education Department Practice Kindergarten and Hala Sultan College of Theology. Chatting with the students, teachers and administrators studying in these schools, Minister Tekin listened to their expectations.
The Minister of National Education and Culture of TRNC Nazım Çavuşoğlu, Deputy Minister Nazif Yılmaz, Director General of European Union and Foreign Relations Tuba Korkmaz, Director General of Support Services Ömür Karakullukçu, Director General of Personnel Bülent Çiftçi and Director General of Religious Education Ahmet İşleyen also accompanied Minister Tekin.
