MINISTER TEKİN GIVES THE FIRST LECTURE OF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR AT İSTANBUL TEACHER ACADEMIES

03 November 2023 09:15

Speaking at the 2023-2024 School Year opening lecture of the Istanbul Teacher Academies at the Istanbul University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Ord. Prof. Cemil Bilsel Conference Hall, Minister Tekin wished Allah's mercy upon war veteran Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all the martyrs on the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

Stating that he saw that the constitutional law, political science and human rights courses have been taught at universities for years and the mechanisms established to secure the fundamental rights and freedoms of humanity did not work during Israel's attacks on the blockaded Gaza, Minister Tekin said that in the academy, they introduced the structure that is responsible for protecting democracy and human rights in the world as a structure that intervenes directly and secures the fundamental rights and freedoms of people who have been subjected to genocide and whose human rights have been violated, regardless of language, religion, race, sect, etc. which turned out to be a lie. Stating that children are being killed and schools and hospitals are being bombed today, Minister Tekin emphasized that the rights guaranteed in all universal texts they teach at the academy are completely disregarded.

Expressing that he believes the universal texts on human rights are deceptions, Minister Tekin said, the texts imposed on them as contracts from the United Nations, Geneva and Rome are controversial and should be rewritten in a way that secures the basic human values. Stressing that it is necessary to produce academic data in terms of reorganizing the international mechanisms that implement this, the Minister said that İstanbul University is one of the universities in Türkiye that succeeds this best.

Stating that he worked as a research assistant at the university for years and realized a serious disconnection between public institutions and the academy when he moved to the public bureaucracy in 2013, Tekin underlined that they aimed to establish the National Education Academy as an institutional structure.

Reminding that the Teacher Academies were established during the period of Ömer Faruk Yelkenci's Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, Tekin said that they need to revise the curriculum at regular intervals and teachers should also know and monitor the theoretical and technological developments related to the teaching profession and innovations in different fields on a healthy basis. Expressing that they wanted to establish a connection with the academy so that teachers who are the main carriers of the Ministry, can update themselves.

Noting that they wish to institutionalize Teacher Academies, Tekin said that they are planning to establish the National Education Academy next spring and started to work on its legal infrastructure. Noting that they expect from the National Education Academy to institutionalize this relationship between universities and the Ministry, especially with the faculties that provide resources for teaching. Minister Tekin stressed that they want to have a structure that will address the concerns raised by academicians, to work closely with them, and to make the cooperation permanent.

Emphasizing that this relationship can be firmly established only if teachers share their field experiences and the problems they face with academics and students at universities, Tekin emphasized the importance of mutual interaction.
