Minister Yusuf Tekin, who first attended the opening ceremony of the 8-classroom Belkıs Emine Çelik Primary School in Malkara, said in his speech that the Ministry of National Education is a very large community with around 1 million 100 thousand employees, nearly 20 million students and 76 thousand institutions.
Thanking the philanthropists who supported such a large education community and made an effort to take some of the burden off the Ministry, Minister Tekin stated that the philanthropists behind a legacy to be prayed for and contribute to the educational needs of Türkiye and society. Minister Tekin underlined that it is important to keep promises and to respect and thank what has been done in the geography where he grew up and in the traditions and customs of the society, and emphasized that for this reason he only went to the opening of schools built by philanthropists. Thanking the philanthropists, Minister Tekin wished that the number of philanthropists would increase.
Minister Tekin, who visited the classrooms, chatted with the students and played ball together in the school garden, later attended the opening ceremony of the 24-classroom Necati-Perihan Kervancı Secondary School, which was built in Çorlu by the philanthropist. Expressing that he was happy that philanthropists helped the Ministry carry the burden of education, Minister Tekin thanked all of them. Stating that they want to contribute to the country together in the process of education and training, Minister Tekin said that without the support of philanthropists, the country's budget will not be enough to meet the number of classrooms needed every year.
Tekin also thanked the philanthropic Kervancı family and wished God's mercy on Necati Kervancı, after whom the school was named, and a long life to his mother, Perihan Kervancı.
Minister Tekin also thanked the teachers the most for their contributions to education.
"If we want our children to read books, let's read books at home"
Emphasizing that there are approximately 1 million 100 thousand teachers and nearly 20 million students in Türkiye, Minister Tekin said that in addition to their own profession, teachers take on all the social roles they cannot fulfill as parents. Underlining that this burden cannot be lifted, Minister Tekin said that children should be taught that education begins in the family from birth. Stating that they have to be a good example for children, Minister Tekin noted that they must do their part as parents. Underlining that families should also read books at home in order to encourage children to read books, Minister Tekin asked families to take some of the burden off teachers by teaching their children.
Minister Tekin and his entourage visited the classrooms and chatted with the students.
