Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk got together with education editors, commentators and journalists during the launch of "I am at the Remedial Training, Too" program organized at the Dolmabahçe Presidential Office.
Noting that all children in Turkey will be supported by the National Support Program (UNEP) during the next 1.5 years, Selçuk stated that the main reason for this support is to examine the shortcomings in the development of children and define what to do as a part of remedial training.
Minister Selçuk said that the Education Information Network (EBA) which ranks first in the world among education platforms with 23 billion visitors and clicks will continue to be used widely even after the end of the pandemic and it responds to the transformed education paradigm and the changing digital infrastructure system.
"There are other education channels and platforms in the world but the system in Turkey provides us the opportunity to follow the daily attendance of each student. Its content is directly related to the curriculum," stated Selçuk.
Stressing that the Ministry has been giving national support since the beginning of the pandemic, Selçuk said, "Even if there were no pandemic, there might be problems and shortcomings in education. In other words, the pandemic is the reason for all of our problems. Pandemic has changed the aspect and content of our problems. One of the fundamental concepts of the Education Vision document is equal opportunity in education. Equal opportunity and justice is not providing the same thing to every student. It means providing the student what he or she needs. Vision document aims at decreasing success differences between schools. "
"We have covered almost all subjects in the curriculum"
Minister Selçuk went on to say that face to face education will mainly focus on adding color to education with social, emotional, physical, cultural and artistic activities rather than only concentrating on classes.
Noting that face to face education is not compulsory, Selçuk stressed, "We have covered almost all subjects in the curriculum. Our teachers are very tired. We focus on the social and emotional aspect of education during this period."
"We must improve children's selection skills"
Selçuk stated, "Our main goal in education is to improve self-management and democracy culture. People live with the consequences of their choices."
Selçuk stressed that the Ministry has decided what to do after July 2 and prepared all kinds of sources for students and their remedial training programs.
Reminding that the Ministry had sent boxes of exercise books to approximately 1.5 million children studying in village schools and schools located in the rural areas last year, Selçuk said they have published summer study books for all students as a part of remedial training program and these are distributed to 5.5 million children
Summer activities designed for children
Minister Selçuk stated that children will have the opportunity to benefit from numerous activities such as fundamental science camps, English reading courses, theater, movie shows, reading activities, games and puzzles during the summer.
Noting that students who are travelling during the summer can also attend these activities, Minister Selçuk stated that provincial directorates of national education will announce these activities in the city.
Selçuk stressed that the Ministry aims at providing checkup for children especially who are in higher risk groups and they plan to carry out eye and obesity screenings at schools.
"There is a high demand for public education centers"
Stressing that there is a high demand for public education centers, Selçuk went on to say that: "We have set a school in 15 thousand neighborhoods in order to found 15 thousand public education centers. Parents will have the right to attend any free course at the center. We are also opening public education centers in every village of the country. Rotating teams will give free apiculture, greenhouse and husbandry lessons. Remedial training is not only limited with children, it also aims at supporting parents."
Selçuk said that teachers will not attend seminars at the end of the education calendar as they had attended many professional improvement training programs throughout the year.
Minister Selçuk noted that the Ministry has defined 1001 village schools which have poor conditions adding that, "We want to establish libraries, design and skill workshops in these 1001 schools."
Stating that the Ministry will give support to these schools, Selçuk stressed that they will form teams in every city under the coordination of governors in order to determine what must be done according to special conditions of every single city.
"We have selected 2.5 million students from 110 districts of the country. We will give support to these children through different sources, training programs, projects and activities," said Selçuk.
