MINISTER ÖZER MADE COMMENTS ABOUT THE TRANSFORMING EDUCATION SUMMIT ORGANIZED IN NEW YORK

Minister Özer made comments about the Transforming Education Summit" held during the 77th session of the UN General Assembly which he attended together with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
 
Özer reminded that new skills in vocational education, learning loss that occurred especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, transformation of digital skills of teachers and students, redesign of environmentally sensitive education in the education systems are the main topics of the summit and noted that Türkiye had the opportunity to share its achievements in the development and spreading  mass education especially in the last 20 years and its important steps in the reinforcement of equal opportunity in education. 
 
"We are happy to see that Türkiye took steps more advanced than the suggestions of UN countries"
"We see that Türkiye already took steps about the issues mentioned during the Transforming Education Summit and our efforts in many fields varying from the professional development programs for teachers to the establishment of digital platforms for education, from founding environmentally sensitive systems to the reinforcement of equal opportunities in education, are more advanced than the suggestions of UN countries," said Özer.
 
Recalling President Erdoğan's speech at the summit, Özer stated that Türkiye has taken important steps in education in the last 20 years and shared its achievements in the reinforcement of human resources, social policies in education, distribution of free textbooks and supplementary sources as well as scholarship, dormitory, conditional cash transfer for education and transportation services.
 
Özer said, "When we consider the fact that Türkiye has a large education system including 19 million students and 1.2 million teachers, we see that we have taken more advanced steps than many countries and implemented important projects."
 
Number of professional development program hour per teacher reached 102 hours"
Özer noted that countries stressed that learning loss occurred during the pandemic was crucial during the summit and went on to say that:
 
"The Ministry of National Education focused on face-to-face education in the last year and activated mechanisms in order to recover learning loss and supported the psychological resilience of teachers. We are happy to offer summer schools in four main subjects after the end of last school year. Professional development programs for teachers are among the main priorities of our Ministry. In addition to face-to-face professional development training programs, we also founded Teachers Information Network for teachers."
 
"In 2020, professional and personal development training program hours per teacher was 44 hours; this figure increased to 94 hours in 2021 and our goal was to increase this number of 120 hours. I am proud to say that this figure reached 192 hours as of today and it will increase to 250 hours.  As long as we support our teachers, the quality of our education system will increase, success differences between schools will decrease and equal opportunities in education will be reinforced."
 
He stressed that when 153 million free text books and 136 million free supplementary sources distributed to students, free food provided to 1.5 million students, scholarship, dormitory, conditional cash transfer for education and transportation services are taken into consideration, Türkiye emerged as a leading country in the Summit as a social state.
 
Personalized support system for students
Minister Özer also made an announcement about a new project of his Ministry concerning personalized support systems for students.
 
"This new system will provide the opportunity to students to follow a personalized training program, recover learning loss through digital programs and receive support according to their own problems. At the same time, teachers will also monitor the training programs of their students," stated Özer.  
 
Minister Özer also mentioned the results of the Primary and Secondary Education Institute Scholarship Exam (İOKBS).
 
Noting that 70 thousand students succeeded in winning scholarship and monthly scholarship support is defined as 663 liras between July and December.
