Director General for Teacher Training and Development Programs Cevdet Vural, Global Director English Programs Michael Connolly and Head of English and Higher Education for the British Council in Türkiye Ayşen Güven exchanged views about English Together Project at a meeting participated by the Deputy Minister of National Education Petek Aşkar.
The project aims at increasing the quality of foreign language education and training and assisting teachers to develop training methods and techniques used for teaching four English language skills to students.
Within the framework of English Together project, professional development networks and peer solidarity as well as peer learning model are included to the continuing professional development of teachers. In the first phase of the project, 22 secondary school English teachers attended a 14 day training program organized in Edinburg College in the United Kingdom. Within the context of pilot study carried out in Ankara, 132 English teachers completed the Professional Development Network Execution training program and 1,200 English teachers received training in the network. Following the end of pilot study, 746 English teachers from all 81 cities of the country attended the Professional Development Network Execution training program and those who completed this training program gave professional development training programs to 12,542 English teachers.
Trainers from Türkiye and the United Kingdom worked in cooperation in the training programs.
As a result of activities carried out within the framework of the Project, English Together Professional Development Set was prepared. The set of books provides English teachers the opportunity to learn by exploring, learning language teaching methods and best examples. The set includes interactive video contents and these are constantly updated according to the needs of teachers.
In line with the goal of providing English teachers the opportunity to develop their professional skills, 1000 English teachers working in secondary state schools attended the project. It is aimed to reach 80 thousand English teachers in 2023.
